About Me

Welcome to my website! My name is Alex Ptachick and I am a newspaper and online journalism student at Syracuse University (@SyracuseU) in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications (@NewhouseSU). I currently write and edit for three publications and media outlets in the Syracuse area. I am an intern in the athletic communications office at Syracuse University (@Cuse), where I write feature stories for the website and maintain records and stats for all of the sports; I am a staff writer for The Daily Orange (@dailyorange), covering the crime beat and other breaking news stories; and I also write for the Near Westside Newsletter, a free, community newspaper that covers everything pertaining to the Westside of Syracuse.

In the past, I wrote, edited and designed for several other publications both on campus and in the Syracuse area. I was the breaking news intern at The Post-Standard (@ThePostStandard) during the fall semester of my junior year; I laid out The Stand that covers the South Side of Syracuse; and I also worked as a continuous news producer for The NewsHouse (@NewsHouse). In the future, I plan to be a sports writer for a major newspaper. To get some sports experience under my belt, I also interned for ESPN Radio (@ESPNRadio) and worked on the Syracuse Legends (@SyracuseLegends) and Inside High School Sports (@ESPNIHSS) shows.

In addition to my busy schedule, I am a captain of the SU cheerleading team (@CuseCheer). Cheering for a Division I school is a job itself. We practice three times a week and have team workouts on our “off days.” And of course, we attend just about every sporting event on the SU campus, showing our pride and support for  Syracuse Athletics (@Cuse) as members of #orangenation.

In my free time, what little I have, I enjoy spending time with my friends, shopping, cooking and connecting with people on several social media platforms.

I plan to use this site to link my followers to my work and post interesting and inspirational content.
